On behalf of the PMSB, the Licensing and Exam Committee and the CEU Committee are hereby issuing the following guidance. All licenses with an expiration date of June 30, 2020 shall still be valid for practice until May 1, 2021. All licenses with an expiration date of June 30, 2020 shall still be valid for practice until July 1, 2021.
If all requirements are met , then the contractor license is issued. If you have not received BOTH a new registration card from the Division of Labor AND a license certificate for the BUSINESS from the board office, you have not completed the requirements. The requirements for examination for this license shall be two years as a properly licensed journeyperson or plumbers equivalent experience and training. This license permits the installation, repair, replacement, alteration or maintenance of piping for petroleum tanks and related pumping equipment only. The holder of this license may perform only work limited to domestic water pumps and water conditioning and only while in the employ of a contractor licensed for such work.

Not only is it illegal for an unlicensed plumber to work in most states, but it is also illegal to hire an unlicensed plumber to complete a job. If an unlicensed plumber mucks up the waterworks for your neighborhood, you could get fined, sued, or even hauled to court. Licensing forces a plumber to stay up-to-date on local laws, regulations, and policies. In other words, if an unlicensed plumber messes up, you could face legal consequences. One of the provisions of Governor Reynolds’ Proclamation of Disaster Emergency prevents licenses issued by the PMSB from expiring. While it appears circumstances will require further extensions of the proclamation, the proclamation may only be extended 30 days at a time. In order to prevent a situation where licenses may expire quickly after the proclamation ends, the PMSB has decided an additional six months is an appropriate extension of the 2020 renewal period at this time. The CEU committee has clarified that the guidance related to CEUs will end on June 30, 2021 or the expiration of the proclamation, whichever is later. All CEUs needed for the 2020 renewal period can be completed online through June 30, 2021 or the expiration of the proclamation, whichever is later. After this, they complete an apprenticeship, which includes a combination of classroom instruction and teaching, coupled with paid on the job training. These apprenticeships are often sponsored by employers and vary in length of time, but typically last around two years.
